The weather was superb for Sunday’s Bush Restoration that we spent planting Yellow Box, and removing Patterson's Curse and an Arum Lily. Others removed weeds in Area 3 where they saw a large kangaroo. At morning tea Mike gave a talk about the Southern water skink. (Pictured below.) All in all a great day to be in the reserve with friends. Join us next time on Wednesday 6 Nov at 9am, and/or Sunday 17 Nov at 9:30am. Photos by Mike and Linda

A fungi-fantastic Sunday was had in Area 3 of the reserve – a beautiful valley that was rather weed-free. Along with a wonderful morning tea we learned from Andrew about Yellox Box, Eucalyptus melliodora – a lovely and common tree within the reserve. The next time you can join us is on Wednesday 3rd of July at 9am for our Conservation and Conversation morning. Photos by Daniel, Mike & Linda
What the volunteers got up to today:
*Walked through Area 3 removing a few weeds such as Watsonia, Blackberry, Boneseed and Pittosporum. It's looking good! *Found an enormous patch of Native Raspberry 😊 *Was amazed at the way the indigenous Spear Grass had twisted itself into rope and dreadlocks. *Tidied up the sleeves and stakes around the planting that Fairhills High School had helped us with a few years ago. *Discovered what we think is Blady Grass, which isn't listed on our flora list. *Watched a pair of Black Faced Cuckoo Shrikes. *Forgot to take photos because I was absorbed being in nature! *Finished the working bee by enjoying a morning tea and a chat with friends. And in the afternoon - * Gave a short presentation to the Upwey High School students participating in the Nature Stewards Program. Such a great educational program. It was a very pleasant day. 😊 On what felt like a morning in Spring, we sprung into action in areas 3 and 14 this past Saturday. Working along the creek, we found many pittos had planted themselves around Owl Loop. Thanks to Saturday’s volunteers that are helping to keep Glenfern a (soon to be (almost)) pitto-free place. Sunday morning felt like close to zero degrees outside, however we ended with a top of delightful, thanks to clear skies filled with warm winter sun rays. Joined by some welcome new faces in Martin, Linda and James, we were led into Area 3 by Mike, AKA "Professor Plum Slice" to pull Pittos, bust Blackberries and spare no Spanish Heath. Then at Mike & Marilyn's Morning Tea, Mike schooled us on our wintery visitor, the Scarlet Robin. (Not to be confused with the equally attractive Flame Robin or Red-capped Robin.) Thanks all for showing up for what was a brilliant morning to out and about in the Valley. Photos by Daniel Jackson
