The low winter’s sun cast wonderful shadows across the clumps of grass throughout area 5, where we removed pittos, boneseed and blackberries, to name a few. There was plenty of time to take in the serenity of the day as weeds were few in number. Thanks to our volunteers for coming out to take part in the morning, and for the always-excellent morning tea that was provided. You can join us next time, on Wednesday 6 August at 9am, and/or Sunday 17 August at 9:30am. 🌿 Photos by Daniel Last Sunday morning we ventured into areas 12 and 3 where a few interesting weed finds were made. (See the photos below for the juicy details.) We spent morning tea at Jill’s Rest, the lovely flat area at the bottom of Area 12 with a bench seat, close to the Archery Club entrance. A local magpie joined us as Linda gave a talk on Veronica gracilis AKA Slender Speedwell, a lovely flowering perennial herb with a spreading habit. We also were witness to a mob of kangaroos making their way through the reserve. A lovely morning in all, and we give our thanks for the volunteers that helped out. You can join us next time, on Wednesday 2 July at 9am, and/or Sunday 20 July at 9:30am. Photos by Daniel J Thanks to all the enthusiastic volunteers at today's working bee. It was a beautiful morning to be in the bushlands. 🌿 Photos by Jackson E.
This coming Wednesday June 4th we'll hold our midweek Conservation & Conversation morning from 9am - 11am, followed by morning tea.
Please note we'll meet at the depot end, Melway 74 G11, to walk through areas 6 and 7. Please bring gloves, drinking water, sturdy shoes. We will provide you with tools and morning tea! Our weekend working bee for June will be held on Sunday June 15th, and we'll send out a reminder. Photo by Daniel J Area 15 welcomed us across Ferny Creek to remove the weeds that had taken root over the past twelve months. We lovingly ripped them out and carted them away to make space for indigenous flora. Agapanthus, pittos, Verbena and ivy were some of the usual culprits, along with some surprises such as a golf ball and a coconut husk. At morning tea, Jackson educated us about the methods Eucalypts use to survive harsh conditions. It was another stunning May morning and a pleasure to be out in the reserve. Thanks to the volunteers that joined us. You can join us next time, on Wednesday 4 June at 9am, and/or Sunday 15 June at 9:30am. 🌿 Photos by Daniel & Nicole Working our way through areas 9 & 15 on Sunday saw us removing many Sweet Pittosporum seedlings, along with a rendezvous with a large moth! See below.
At morning tea, Marilyn talked about spiky bushes - Prickly Currant bush, Sweet Bursaria, Hawthorn and others. It was nice to see thirsty plants in the reserve starting to recover after the recent rain. Thanks to the volunteers that came out to help. Join us next time on Sunday 18 May at 9:30am, and/or Wednesday 4 June at 9am. 🌿 Photos by Tim The weather was superb for Sunday’s Bush Restoration that we spent planting Yellow Box, and removing Patterson's Curse and an Arum Lily. Others removed weeds in Area 3 where they saw a large kangaroo. At morning tea Mike gave a talk about the Southern water skink. (Pictured below.) All in all a great day to be in the reserve with friends. Join us next time on Wednesday 6 Nov at 9am, and/or Sunday 17 Nov at 9:30am. Photos by Mike and Linda Our volunteers spent a lovely morning on Sunday in Area 10 removing plenty of Sweet Pittosporum seedlings, among others. At morning tea we had a talk from Linda about the Asperula conferta AKA Common Woodruff, a cute perennial herb typically getting no higher than 20cm. We enjoyed photographing this and all the other small details of the reserve, so we hope you’ll enjoy taking a journey into the reserve through our camera lenses. Alternatively, get up close and personal with the reserve at our next event, the Conservation and Conversation morning on Wednesday 2nd of October at 9am. 🌿 Photos by Daniel & Nicole
Thanks to the volunteers that joined us on Sunday to walk through Area 4. There were relatively few weeds to be found, and it was a lovely morning to be out in the reserve. Join us for our next bush restoration on Wednesday 4th September at 9am. 🌿 Photos by Daniel and Nicole
