Midweek Conservation & Conversation Morning, Sep 2015

Our next midweek Conservation and Conversation morning is Wednesday 2nd September, 9 - 11 am. The plan is to work around the car park at the corner of New and Glenfern Roads. We would like to repaint the picnic table and there may be some mulch to spread and litter to pick up. Also, there is a little more work to be done around the frog pond and quarry tracks.

If you would like to join in meet us at the main car park, middle rock wall entrance, Glenfern Road, Upwey. Tools and morning tea provided.

If raining the event will be cancelled.

Bush Restoration Photos, August 2015

Sunday ended up as a fine, sunny day. We started work in Area 9, where once the pitto's reigned, but now lie on the forest floor - mostly as wood-chips.

It was great to see many of the plantings we've done are thriving, and we took the opportunity to liberate some of the slow growing eucalypts from the enthusiastic grasses nearby.

Thanks to all that came out to help! And to Mike for being our fearless leader on this day.

Upcoming: Bush Restoration, 16 Aug 2015

I hope you been warm well during this cold winter. Last week, on one of the sunnier days, we went for a walk in the Bushlands and noticed some of the wattles are flowering. Their brilliant yellow stood out amongst the wet bush so we were able to get close to them to identify. They were Early Black Wattles, Acacia decurrens, that are indigenous to NSW and have been introduced into Victoria. Luckily there were only a few of them so we have earmarked them for removal at one of bush restoration mornings before they take over.

Come and join us at our next bush restoration morning, this Sunday 16th August 9.30-12.30. We are planning to work between Ferny Creek and Wallaby Walk, which through a Melbourne water grant was cleared of Pittosporums a few years ago. It is amazing to see the indigenous plants coming back, especially the beautiful Spear Grass. Of course, there are a few weed seedlings that are appearing too which will need removing so we can give the bush a chance to rejuvenate.

At morning tea there will be an informative talk about a local plant or animal. (I learnt about Acacia decurrens at one of the morning tea talks).

Meet at the main, middle gate, rock wall entrance, Glenfern Road, Upwey. Tools and morning tea provided.

The bush restoration morning will be cancelled if raining.
