Annual General Meeting 2025

Dear Friends and Members,

You are invited to join the Friends of Glenfern Valley Bushlands for our Annual General Meeting on Thursday October 9th 2025, from 7:00pm at the Upwey Township Hall.

The evening will commence with a light supper and brief presentation by Jade Gilburt of the Yarra Ranges Council's Bushlands Team, about our 2024 environmental burn; ecological assessments, post-burn management and observations in the field. The formal AGM process including reporting and election of committee will follow, and then a brief committee meeting. Please find attached the event flyer with more details.

We hope you can join us to share in the achievements of our group over the past year, and to welcome in the committee for 2025-2026.

You are invited to our Annual General Meeting, that will be held on Thursday October 10th at 7pm, in the Upwey Township Hall (opposite the skateboard park).

Join us for a presentation by Melvin Xu, mycologist and environmental educator. We will provide you with a light supper.

At the AGM you will have the opportunity to hear about the work of our Friends Group, future plans and finances.

It's a great opportunity to meet other members, to find out more about Glenfern Valley Bushlands and to become more active in the group. As in past years a new committee will be elected to carry the work forward.

Our AGM will be followed by a brief committee meeting at which you are welcome to stay, if you are interested.

There is no need to RSVP.

Annual General Meeting 2023

Dear Friends and supporters,

You are invited to our Annual General Meeting, which will be held on Thursday 12th of October at 7.00pm, in the Upwey Township Hall (opposite the skateboard park).

Our guest speaker will be Dave Carr, Fire Management Officer at Yarra Ranges Council.

Dave has kindly offered to speak about his role at Council and to give us an insight into the planning and preparation required for the environmental burn, in area 2, next autumn. The purpose of the cool burn is to control the dominant exotic grasses and to promote better ecological diversity.

At the AGM you will have the opportunity to hear about the work of our Friends Group, future plans and finances. This is a great opportunity to meet other members and to find out more about Glenfern Valley Bushlands and to get more active in the group. As in past years a new committee will be elected to carry the work forward.

You are all very welcome on the night and we will provide you with a light supper,

Annual General Meeting 2022

Our guest presenter is Mike Sverns, who is part of the Helmeted Honeyeater Recovery Team (DELPW) and a FGVB member. Mike will introduce us to this beautiful endangered bird and the work various organisations are doing to save it from extinction.

Following the presentation is our AGM and a brief general meeting.

Thursday 13th October, 7pm, Upwey Township Hall (opposite skatepark).

Glenfern Committee Update

16/12/2021

On Thursday we celebrated David's tenth and final year as president of the Glenfern committee. I've known David as a relaxed and humorous leader, and he's been at the helm for so many wonderful achievements at the reserve. One need only scroll through this page to be reminded of that.

David has elected to stay on the committee as a general member, and will be able to assist the transition to our newly elected president: Jackson Ellis!

Jackson starting volunteering with the Friends of Glenfern Valley Bushlands in April 2018, and joined the committee in 2019. Please join me in welcoming Jackson to his new role at Glenfern.

After ten years as president, David decided not to stand again for nomination as he wants to focus more of his time playing the Japanese flute to his hives of bees, and kitesurfing on Aura Vale Lake (all allegedly).

Good morning friends and supporters,

You are invited to attend our AGM, which will be held on Thursday 11th October, from 7.00pm, at the Upwey Township Hall (opposite the skateboard park).

At the AGM you will have the opportunity to hear about the work of our Friends Group, future plans and our finances. This is a great opportunity to meet other members and to find out more about Glenfern Valley Bushlands and to get more active in the group. As in past years a new Committee will be elected to carry the work forward.

We will start the evening by welcoming a guest speaker and providing you with a light dinner of soup, cheese platters and desserts.

All welcome, no need to RSVP. We look forward to seeing you there.

Our AGM and Members' night is being held at the Upwey Township Hall (opposite the skate park behind the Upwey shops) on Thursday 13th October at 7pm.

You are invited to join us for a meal of soup, rolls and nibbles while we watch a short film by Mike Sverns that highlights the special moments and birds photographed at Glenfern. If you like to stay on this will be followed by our AGM and a brief general meeting.
