Our next bush restoration morning is on Sunday 17 May 2026, 9.30am - 12.30pm. We'll meet on Ferndale Road, UFTG. (Turn right off New Road.) The approximate Google Plus location is 38V6+JCR UFTG.

You are very welcome for all or part of the morning; or if you are unable to participate in the work, do feel free to join us at 11am, when we stop for morning tea and an informative talk about a plant, animal, or other aspect of the reserve.

Please bring sturdy shoes, long pants, garden gloves and drinking water. We'll provide you with tools and hand sanitiser.

We'll check on area 15 across the creek, so we'll meet at the depot end.

You are very welcome for all or part of the morning; or if you are unable to participate in the work, do feel free to join us at 11am, when we stop for morning tea and an informative talk about a plant, animal, or other aspect of the reserve.

Please bring sturdy shoes, gloves, drinking water. We'll provide you with morning tea, tools, and hand sanitiser.

]]><![CDATA[Midweek Conversation & Conservation Photos, 4 March 2026]]>Tue, 03 Mar 2026 13:00:00 GMThttps://www.glenfernvalleybushlands.org.au/the-latest/midweek-conversation-conservation-photos-4-march-2026We are feeling quite satisfied as this morning we ticked many things off our Area 1 to-do list. 

✅Repaired entrance path
✅Whipper-snippered the embankment 
✅Weeded thistles, blackberries, euphorbia and nightshade etc
✅Cut off the flowering heads of Purpletop to stop seeding 
✅Re-staked the little Yellow box trees that we planted a few years ago - they have survived the harsh weather and are looking good
✅Picked up the never-ending rubbish that gets dumped
✅Removed the old sleeves and stakes from previous plantings

Our two hours work was followed by delicious morning tea and a good yarn around the picnic table. Thanks everyone.

]]><![CDATA[Bush Restoration Photos, February 2026]]>Thu, 26 Feb 2026 13:00:00 GMThttps://www.glenfernvalleybushlands.org.au/the-latest/bush-restoration-photos-february-2026A sunny Sunday 15 February saw the Glenfern volunteers wander through area 9, along the creek, removing weeds and appreciating the efforts of previous bush restoration mornings, from the previous 25 years or so. Thank you volunteers of the past and present! Future volunteers can join us on one of our Sundays (third Sunday of the month) or Wednesdays (first of the month). 

Our next midweek Conservation & Conversation will be held on Wednesday 4 March, 9am-11am.

]]><![CDATA[2026 Twilight Picnic & Night Walk]]>Tue, 27 Jan 2026 10:48:25 GMThttps://www.glenfernvalleybushlands.org.au/the-latest/2026-twilight-picnic-night-walkTo start the new year at Glenfern, we would love to welcome you at our Twilight Picnic and Night Walk, to be held on Saturday 7 February. You can join us for the picnic at 7:30pm, the walk at 8:30pm or both.

Please BYO everything for the picnic, and sturdy shoes plus torch for the uneven tracks. 

We'll meet at the Bagunggadjiri Amphitheatre down Echidna Track.

All welcome at this family event. Children are wonderful observers and often see and hear things that adults walk past.

It was great to be back in Area 2 and to see more orchids and other germinates coping very well amongst the native and pasture grasses.

We'll meet at the central entrance with the rock wall, to check on grassland areas and keep weeds away from the beautiful milkmaids, chocolate lilies and other natives.

You are very welcome for all or part of the morning; or if you are unable to participate in the work, do feel free to join us at 11am, when we stop for morning tea and an informative talk about a plant, animal, or other aspect of the reserve.    

Please bring sturdy shoes, gloves, drinking water. We'll provide you with morning tea, tools, and hand sanitiser.

This will be our last weekend working bee for 2025. Our last midweek working bee is planned for Wednesday 3 December. Early in February we plan to start the year with our picnic and night-walk to thank you all for your support!

]]><![CDATA[Midweek Conversation & Conservation Photos, 8 Oct 2025]]>Mon, 13 Oct 2025 08:58:22 GMThttps://www.glenfernvalleybushlands.org.au/the-latest/midweek-conversation-conservation-photos-8-oct-2025This morning we spent a productive and informative session weeding in Area 2 where an environmental burn was conducted last December. Working with Gabe from Fairy Wren Contractors and Jade from the

Yarra Ranges Bushland team we weeded around the exisiting Dianella, Lomandra, Velvet Tussock Grass and other indigenous species, giving them space to expand and thrive.

It was mainly weedy grasses that we were pulling out and it was great to have Jade and Gabe there to help identify and teach us.

As usual, our morning concluded with a delicious shared morning tea and a chat. Thanks everyone for coming along.
