The Friends of Glenfern Valley Bushlands group was lucky to be a recipient of a Yarra Ranges Council Cultural Grant for an 'Entrance of Significance'. Our aim was to replace the old remnant entrance with one that was bold, symbolic and appropriate to our beautiful reserve. We engaged a local indigenous artist to design Wurundjeri spirits out of rusting steel that were mounted on the front gate.
A striking leaf shaped information pedestal was installed nearby to explain the significance of the spirits, Bunjil and Waa, and the welcoming Manna Gum leaves as well as the symbolic link to Aboriginal history. Two smaller leaf pedestals were erected at the other entrances to the reserve.
